Featured artist works in watercolor - New Jersey Herald

This early experience led to an amateur's interest in art, especially the great watercolor collection of Winslow Homer on display at the Museum. One of his earliest works won third prize in the amateur competition at the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show. Although he occasionally took an academic art course and dabbled in oil painting, Biesty only turned to watercolor as a hobby in 1996, after working with local Sussex County artist Toni Chaplin. As a youngster, he attended a workshop at the Brooklyn Museum that afforded children the opportunity to draw the beautiful Japanese bridges, tea houses and arbors as well as the koi ponds and flora in the Botanical Gardens attached to the Museum.
