Bob & Tom's Excellent Adventures: Rollin' on the (Illinois) River - CIproud.com
There's built-in nostalgia, a chance to relive the way people used to travel on the Illinois River. "There were nearly two dozen boats parked along the shoreline here in Peoria," says author Ken Zurski. The thing is, they also would have been excursion boats too, just like the Spirit of Peoria. The first steamboats arrived in Peoria in 1830. They were small "packet boats," designed to carry cargo and passengers. It wasn't unusual for a steam engine to be pulled from one tired hull and put in a new boat.
