Neubauers find success at the Boatel - Fairbanks Daily News-Miner

The Neubauers were told in the early ‘70s that a bar that wasn’t downtown wouldn’t make it, but it’s still going strong. The original Boatel was a riverboat converted to a hotel with staterooms and a piano bar. The original Boatel burned down and was replaced, with the Neubauers leasing the building for years before purchasing it and improving it. Jon ran the establishment while Annie worked full time, raised three girls. FAIRBANKS - When the Boatel held its first outdoor concert, Natalie Neubauer gazed out at a sea of people on the bar’s lawn. Jon and Annie Neubauer took over the riverfront tavern in 1971 and when Jon died in 2003, Annie and her daughters, Chris and Natalie, became the owners. Source: www.newsminer.com
