Great Midwest Yacht Co. continues to craft racing sailboats in Sunbury - The Columbus Dispatch

And not just any boat. The creations from Great Midwest Yacht Co. have won national racing championships. Laber, 74, and his white-bearded assistant, Dave Stetson, 68, make almost everything on site. Doug Laber makes a single design, a 17-foot sailboat called a "Thistle," and has been doing it since 1975, when he started his company. In the main building, which covers about 8,400 square feet, Laber spends much of his time cutting, joining and fitting the wood parts that make up the top of the boat.
